My sleep doc said to only take melatonin that is USP certified. Those are more consistent with labeling.

a take 0.75 mg each night and that's enough for me, anything above that makes me groggy the next day. it's crazy 10mg is a commonplace supplement amount

I remember when I was un-diagnosed for narcolepsy and I genuinely could not sleep at night. I needed to sleep so bad I took 60-80mg of melatonin. Safe to say I did not sleep and threw up for hours because of the migraine.

Melatonin doesn’t do crap for me, I wish it would make me tired. But I’m trying to shift my circadian rhythm because I have terrible insomnia.

Can you do a follow-up video and talk about taking melatonin and ADHD/autism. I’ve been told that there were studies specifically around this but haven’t tried to track them down

I've been taking melatonin (1mg daily) since I was in my late teens, for delayed sleep phase disorder. without it, I fall asleep around 4am. (yes, I have tried everything you can imagine and more. only melatonin helps). I really hope there aren't any negative effects we aren't aware of because it is pretty much impossible to function in society when your normal waking up time is 11am to noon 🙃 I've no idea the extent of damage I've done to my brain and body from living on 4-5h of sleep per night for years *as a child/teen* before I got to a good sleep specialist

would you be willing to discuss the difference between statistical and clinical significance? it's never quite made sense to me

I'm an insomniac. Melatonin doesn't help me fall asleep. But if I don't take melatonin, I have a noticeably harder time staying asleep. Sleep is hard enough to come by, so I'll keep taking it if it means any improvement. 🫢

Melatonin doesn't help me get to sleep at all, and my sleep quality is terrible with it, but it makes it near impossible to wake up in the morning and gives me a wicked headache the next day. I hate it.

I think both melatonin and ashwaganda need to be used with far more caution!

In New Zealand up to 30 days supply is available over the counter at a pharmacy with out a prescription. As pharmacies don’t have a centralised computer system you can just go from one to another. Prior to 2025 it was prescription only, but still easy to obtain as some pharmacists were authorised to prescribe, and you just had to tell the right story.

It severely bothers me how frequently children are given melatonin in the US. It’s genuinely crazy to me we’re not worried about altering natural hormone levels in children with OTC meds.

I find it works well for adhd in the sleep latency aspect. Instead of laying there for hours before eventually passing out, it turns your brain off jjjuuusssstt enough to actually fall asleep in a reasonable amount of time. eg under 45min.
