Sometimes, the ones you’re trying to save are the most terrified of you.” 💔🐾 Today, the spicy mama and her five babies finally moved into their new foster pen. It wasn’t the happy moment I imagined. 💔 Mama was absolutely terrified. I let her out of the trap, and she launched herself around the pen, landed on my head, and scratched me trying to find a way out. My heart broke for her because I know she wasn’t being aggressive... she was just scared and confused. I covered the pen to help her feel safe at night and by the next morning they were all quietly hiding behind the cat tree. Looking at them now, I know I made the right decision. Mama doesn’t look well, and the kittens have little crusty eyes that need treatment. Unfortunately, the vets couldn’t see them over the weekend, so now my next challenge is figuring out how to safely catch this terrified little family again for their appointments. Rescue isn’t always cuddles and happy endings. Sometimes it’s earning the trust of animals that have never known kindness, making difficult decisions, and hoping they’ll one day understand that you’re trying to help. For now, they’re safe.
