Disagree. How someone treats strangers is a reflection of core values and their baseline for human decency. Strong reactions towards family is a reflection of someone’s nervous system. Can’t really be compared

Not invalidating you’re point at all but real kindness is shown when you are kind to people who owe you absolutely nothing 😭 there are several different aspects to consider with how you act at home

As a clinical psychologist this isn’t accurate. Negative reactions to family members especially parents is often triggered by nervous system reactions to trauma patterns and people often regress behaviourally with family members. Family homes are rarely a place to grow as individuals in adulthood and that’s where irritability with family comes in. So your point isn’t 100% false but it’s not quite accurate in terms of ‘who you really are.’ When nervous systems can relax that’s where true self comes out.

Some people survived ‘home’. You’re assuming ‘home’ provided safety for everyone. Respectfully, it did not.

My abusive father was a model citizen in public. He was kind, he was charismatic, he was caring. There was no evidence of that man behind closed doors in my home. That is what she’s talking about

As a mental health profession, who you are is not, who you are when you are triggered. 😅😅😅 What a dangerous message that has no cultural context

horrible take
someone can be unkind to their family because of the trauma and the abuse they have dealt with from people they call their own family... but are kind to friends, strangers and acquaintances

worst take ever. people who live with you will know how to push ur buttons and also have done so several times. hence the reaction. most dont go crazy over one thing but a pattern.

t’s wrong, because it’s not about faking being kind, it’s about your family triggering you and stressing you out and treating you like shit. I can tell you I’m one of the kindest people you can meet in your life. I’m kind to everyone, even my friends. I’m very positive, but at home I’m always moody because I feel unsafe and stressed because everyone is screaming at me, and I just get affected and want to protect myself, so I start being defensive. But for example, with my only sister that I really feel safe with, I’m very kind
