Look at recent reviews, because a hostel could have been amazing but now is not it. Stay in female only dorms. I always book a room with beds with curtains. I you said that wasn’t a thing? But I have been traveling Europe for years and I always look for it. Also look the hostel reviews up on multiple places. I start with Hostelworld, then google and then I check social media. Hope this is helpful

honestly my biggest recommendation is to read as many of the reviews within 6 months esp on hoestelworld, google, & booking.com if they’re on there. other solo female travelers are your best reference for hostels. also, i’m not sure if you’re booking on hostelworld or not (i did like half of the time but tried to more often if the price difference wasn’t dramatic from their website) but the hostelworld chat was a life saver so many times! when i was in amsterdam i was in like city center with a friend around like 1a and it was oddly dead and felt sketch to walk back to my hostel (which included going around the train station) so i just put in my hostels specific chat if anyone was out and wanted to walk back with me and someone ended up meeting me where i was and walked me back to the hostel which i appreciated sm

In Europe I always read hostelworld reviews, google reviews, only stayed in female dorms, and didn’t go out alone at night. I hope your next hostels are better and you’re able to have a great time!

I love Clink í Lar in Dublin. I’ve stayed there 5 times. Also loved The Nest in Salthill, Galway.

When I solo traveled Europe I booked the single rooms in hostels. More expensive than a share room but less than a hotel and you also get the experience of meeting new people in the common areas!

Definitely try to stay at the chain/name brand hostels whenever possible! That’s when I felt the most safe. Example being OneFam!

Good job listening to your instincts. Read reviews & book ahead. Make friends & only go out in a group at night. Don’t acknowledge cat calls. Don’t smile at men (unless you want the attention) bc it’s seen as more of an invitation than in the US. Keep your passport, a card, & most of your cash in a belt or neck bag, so if you get pickpocketed you have the most important stuff on you.
