Not the first time there was an interim champion in WWE. First time was during Covid in NXT. JD McDonagh was NXT Cruiserweight champion. But due to lockdown and travel restrictions he could not travel to the US to defend the title. So for the US they created an interim title. They did a tournament in which tournament by Santos Escobar won. When restrictions were lifted JD vs Santos happened to determine the sole champion which santos won. So not the first time it has happened. Rhea nor WWE is faking her injury you all are reaching too much.

they did it back when cm punk left with the belt and they crowned a new champion in a tournament that John Cena won the Cm Punk came back. afterwards both fought to see who was the real champion which punk won.
