Let’s being with the film has a cast to make money. That’s all. It’s a business. But that doesn’t take away the fact that certain characters like Lupita goes farther away from what we know. I just heard massive mental gymnastics to push the idea that there is no problem at all with that character. Whereas Helen is in fact a mythological figure, so are her parents. Now. Homer only describe her arms indeed as a reference of status (same as with the concept of blue blood in other parts of Europe for example), but historically speaking she has a Mediterranean background as a Spartan but also we know from Greek mythology the approximate looks from oral tradition of Helen parents. Neither of them are of African origins and their looks comply with the average Mediterranean look and as a matter of fact Leda has been describe to have “snowy” skin. While of course being party of mythology none of this is verified there is an oral tradition of Greece as where their historical and mythological figures look like for them on their history and literature. Helen of Troy would’ve not been or black skin due to her parents and the long records of how they have been seen by the Greeks for hundreds of years. Sad that no more people with actual Greek heritage appears in the film with all due respect to the amazing performers in the film (Lupita included).
