As terrifying as this was, her child figured out something considered difficult. He then walked to a store to get candy. I’d imagine he’s usually in a car when they leave home. He figured it out. Autism doesn’t mean children are unable to do for themselves. It may just take a little more time.

We have an 11yr old non verbal boy missing in Calgary right now. He’s been gone since Thursday afternoon. He was caught on a couple of ring cameras walking down the street. The whole city is looking.,, everybody’s worried, sick and scared. Police cars are driving super slow down alleys with Disney music blaring, hoping that it lures him out wherever he could be hiding. I can’t even imagine what his mom is going through right now.

I love how she didn't put the blame on the nanny. This could happen to anyone, even to the parents themselves. We just need to remind ourselves to never underestimate autistic kids. They are very bright and creative.

My non verbal son left home at 6am, he went to the park where we go to walk my dog, a lady saw him and took him home and called the police. The police told us that autistic kids usually do this. That happened 3 years ago and I still can’t sleep very well.
