DNFing a book is like leaving a party that you didn’t want to be at anyway.

Years ago, my husband and I bought an audio book at a Cracker Barrel on a road trip...Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse. We like apocalypse books, looked interesting enough. I literally don't know why we listened to the whole fuckin thing! We should have stopped, we could have turned it off...we still talk about those wasted hours 😂

Yay. Dnf for the win.
Eco estimated that you can only read 10k books in this life, and that only if you work at it hard. So it's great to not have lousy to middling book be one of them

I find DNFing so hard. But you know what, it does feel good when it happens. And I agree. There are so many men who write women wonderfully so come on, buddy!

I am SOO glad you also hated the perfect marriage!!! It was probably the worst book I’ve read in the past 5 years.

DNFing things I wasn’t enjoying was a big reading goal in 2025 for me and I’ve kept it up this year and it’s been GLORIOUS.

Yeeaah girl! As someone who just can’t let go and insists on subjecting herself to masochistic reading experiences, I realize what a big deal this is. Brava!

Oh! Somehow I knew immediately it would be the book I recommended in a comment a few weeks ago 😂. I remember the first book being better, but those are some of reasons I stopped reading the series after book 3. In my defense it’s been 20 years. You’re clearly just a faster learner than I was 🤣.

I have an MA in literature and I say this not to do some weird flex but to explain how hard it was for me to dnf a book at first. I stand by it. I just don't have time for badly written literature or literature that doesn't resonate with me because there is too much good stuff out there.
