the song of achilles is not really a retelling it’s more like a fanfic. it’s a good book if u read it without wanting any scholarly knowledge of true homeric works.

Start with the prequel: Argonautica. Odysseus' father Laertes rocking with the ancient world's Avengers to find some wooly fabrics. You got The Hulk - I mean, Hercules, spooky Medea, Orpheus, Atalanta the Huntress, the wonder twins Castor & Pollux, & their hilariously useless Captain - Jason.

i took a class on greek history last year and my professor recommended we used the emily wilson translation of the iliad since it’s supposed to be a more accurate translation! (i would take the recommendation since he literally studies ancient greek translation lol)
