@eastcoastfarrier: Not every story has a happy ending—and that's okay. I've been fortunate to work with some incredible clients over the years. In fact, I'd say 99% of the horse owners I work for are respectful, appreciative, and truly care about their horses. But every now and then, you run into someone who reminds you why boundaries matter. Being a farrier is hard, physical work. We work around animals that can seriously injure us in a split second, and we make safety decisions every single day. If a situation becomes unsafe or disrespectful, I'm okay with saying, "This isn't the right fit." Respect goes both ways. 👇 Farriers... what's something you refuse to compromise on? Horse owners... what do you think makes a great farrier/client relationship? #farrier #farriersoftiktok #farmlife #hoofcare #equestrian

Ours is 3 hours away and she comes up this way once a month usually and hits 5 or 6 barns of 2-4horses.

If it was a therapeutic shoeing, and I’m meeting the Vet and working with X-rays, then yes. But I would be able to bill accordingly for that time.

I always tell a new farrier, I've got 2 easy ones and 1 who has bad arthritis in both fronts. I do sedate and give him Bute but he can be a bit of a struggle. but not horrible.
Yes it all sounds weird and rude. now we know why they don't have a farrier. I always treat my farrier well, you all work very hard at what can be a very dangerous job.

for sure not for the same price. charge everything. for me in Belgium it would be €0,30 p km and €150 euro for the driving time (€50/h) and €200 for the set of 4 shoes. they can take it or leave it.

Well….I’m not against going far for a stop, but they will have to pay a travel fee. I am new to the industry and will accept that I need to go further and take not as nice horses. If the horse isn’t on a regular schedule they will have to pay for a long hoof trim since it takes longer. I don’t think it’s ok for anyone to treat you with disrespect. I wouldn’t go back just due to the disrespect shown as well as actual misleading (aka lying) about the reality of the horses situation. It’s import to come prepared for a challenging horse time wise and to set realistic expectations for the client. That person just doesn’t understand this is your profession and how you make a living!

I’m doing that tomorrow for a trim 😂😂 been doing him for years and he is on lease for kids lessons, while his actual owner does the new mom thing. But he has a special place in my heart so… but I do change her extra for travel. She doesn’t care she wants him to have consistent hoof care.

I drive three hours one way for two horses. However she feeds me, and pays me 100 a horse and tips me! If they take care of me I’ll drive anywhere for the horses❤️🙌

Charge mileage and driving time. what does that tell you. I give my farrier a hundred a horse for a trim and a bag of steak and potatoes and garlic and honey. l love his patience with my not so good horses

I do. Most my stops are over an hour away. I am usually good about doing multiple clients in an area but I mess up the schedule and go out for one or two sometimes.
