As someone who has already gone through my viva, I don't think the comments were harsh at all. This was only a proposal presentation. If students are not made aware of the mistakes at this stage, they may end up carrying those same issues throughout their entire thesis. The examiners' comments are meant to help students see their work more clearly, improve it, and avoid bigger problems later on. As the Dr. mentioned, if you do not know how to write a proper problem statement or identify the research gap, it will become a much bigger issue later. It is even more problematic if your methodology is not properly designed. These are the foundations of your research, so you need to get them right before continuing with the rest of your thesis. As for meeting your supervisor, it is a fundamental part of the thesis-writing process. I understand that some supervisors can be difficult to approach or may not always be readily available, but ultimately, your thesis is your own responsibility, and you are the one who has to complete it. Using AI tools for guidance is not wrong. They can be helpful for understanding concepts, improving writing, or generating ideas. However, students should use them responsibly. Learn from the suggestions, think critically, and make the work your own instead of simply copying and pasting everything 🥰

It was my first time doing research, and honestly, my supervisor wasn’t very helpful. Since he was busy, I had to learn everything on my own by referring to thesis samples and asking seniors for guidance. I barely consulted my supervisor, yet i still graduated with an A for my dissertation and was awarded best presenter in my faculty. My point is, yes, consulting your supervisor is important, but understanding your own research is even more important. If you truly understand your title, RO, RQ, problem statement, methodology, and results, and can explain them confidently, you’ll do just fine. At the end of the day, you’re the one defending your research not your supervisor

One advice….If you see some student tk jumpe SV dia..ADA REASONNNNNN…tkde student tkkn jumpe SV…stop blaming your student la….you blame before even hearing dr side diorg…of course u dah dgr dr SV diorg kn..but u ade tanye tk side diorg kenape tk jumpe SV…come on…

my tips here is kalau korang punya SV tak layan korang then stop looking for them, look for them bila nak dapatkan tandatangan je. find another lecturer yang capable of being your supervisor. jangan duduk je tunggu, kalau cari tak dapat, cari lain. you have no time to waste kejar SV 24/7. cari alternative and initiative lain.

Dr. My honest opinion here is you can’t blame that student 100%. I do believe that there is effort given and struggles to complete the research. The outcome should be influenced by the involvement of his/her supervisor as well. Some of the supervisor don’t even supervise their student for research, more to hands-off.

Am i too millennial to think that she was a strict but still very informative..i could get pass that jz so i could do better..she is there to gv feedback on the research, not to study the r/s this student hv with her sv..ar first i was also like wtf so harsh but as this vid goes on, she did explain what the student did wrong..which is, everything..
