Had my diff explode on the highway felt liek the entire back of the truck lifted up turns out the center pin back out and tossed up the entire diff

Had a guy put a wobble socket on an air impact. Gave the trigger a little blip and the socket yeeted off and hit him in corner of the eye. Broke his cheek bone. Half an inch over and it would have been eye patches for life. Be careful with wobbles.

had something similar with the diff locking up but it wasn't the side gears. all the gears were fine actually, it was the bearings that seized.

These things are notorious for rear differential failures and nobody talks about it

My dad was an automotive technician at a Chevy dealership for over 20 years. he gave me his swivel sockets that have been well used. He said he almost exclusively used them.

Heck no dude, minimum side gear set, bearings and seals. All that metal, it will be back with a bearing failure soon.

IF you are not replacing all the bearings you are doing a disservice to the customer. All those metal shavings went through that entire rear end contaminating pinion bearings, carrier bearings and axle bearings. Anyone saying otherwise has never worked on a rear end before or a vehicle for that matter. It might not fail instantly but those bearings are now damaged and this person will be back in 6 months for a total rebuild. Metal shavings and bearings don't go well together
