Peter, I understand that Joe was making a bit of a dated reference, and maybe it wasn’t the funniest joke or the most relevant thing to say. Not every joke lands, and that’s completely normal. But at the end of the day, he’s still your friend. From the way I saw it, he wasn’t trying to ruin the conversation or make things awkward. He just wanted to be included, join in with everyone else, and throw out a suggestion that he genuinely thought would make people laugh. There wasn’t any bad intention behind what he said. He was simply trying to participate and be part of the moment like everyone else. What bothered me wasn’t even the joke itself—it was how he was treated afterward. Instead of just laughing it off, changing the subject, or saying it wasn’t that funny, he was basically pushed aside and made to feel like he didn’t belong there. It came across like he was being outcasted and shoved into a corner, almost as if his presence was an inconvenience. No one deserves to be treated like that, especially by people they’re supposed to be comfortable around. It honestly looked like he was being treated like an annoying pet that everyone wanted to ignore instead of a friend who was just trying to interact with the group. Friends are supposed to have each other’s backs, even when someone says something a little awkward or tells a joke that misses the mark. Everyone has moments where they say something that doesn’t land. That doesn’t mean they deserve to be embarrassed or made to feel like they should stop talking altogether. A little kindness and understanding go a long way, and it costs nothing to let someone feel included instead of making them feel isolated. Seeing the way Joe was treated was genuinely disappointing. Whether you meant it that way or not, the message it sent was that he wasn’t welcome, and that’s a terrible feeling for anyone to experience. Imagine how you’d feel if you were excited to contribute to a conversation, only to be dismissed and made to feel like you shouldn’t have spoken at all. It’s not about one joke—it’s about how someone is made to feel afterward. That’s why I’ve honestly lost a lot of respect for you over this. I expected better

I dislike what the family guy writers did with Joe. Started out as this badass cop who, despite his disability, proved he could take on any crime. However, as the shows trajectory continued, he just became a sad, disappointing cop who would always be the butt of the joke for his disability. Sad stuff.

Peter…listen man, I understand that in the moment those close to us whether it be our friends or loved ones, can seemingly be obnoxious or “lame” however it’s important to remember that communication is important, rather than making rash decisions based off of a bad one liner that you didn’t like, it’s much better to properly communicate and inform them of whatever it is you find off putting, not as a means of slander or to insult them, but as a means to improve them as a person. I am all for constructive criticism and some what brutally honest friendship however these only work when everyone is willing to communicate so that you can all improve each other together, collectively as a whole, rather than people just bottling everything up and building up this secret animosity that might go unnoticed even to the wielder, actions speak louder than words so they might find themselves making irrational decisions that could jeopardize your friendship. Although I don’t hate you for this, as I understand nobody is perfect, I also don’t respect you as much anymore, but that’s okay. I’m not writing this as a means to insult you or paint you out to be some big mean villain however I ask that you take this in a good light and genuinely reflect on yourself, think about this in a broader sense, imagine you said something like this that your friends didn’t like and they just turned you into a social outcast and embarrassed you, I bet it wouldn’t feel too good❤️‍🩹 much love regardless bro. Remember who we are is not set in stone, you can change in the snap of a finger if you so will it, you might seem the same to others when deciding to change however don’t let them push their projections of how they see you, onto you, you know who you are and who you want to be so don’t let them weight you down with your past.

Joe is a good person, he just struggles with relating to his friends. I think that’s ok because he means well.

TRICKED ME, DID YOU??!! :
I constantly witness that Joe is undermined thoroughly throughout Family Guy, only highlighting him for his flaws even though he as a person can be wholly so much more. His kind gestures breathe life and understanding in his character, and his charming attempts to make his friends chuckle really show the good-natured person he is, and despite this fact, his friends treat him with rejection and disrespect, like they’re better than him. They, who are the same people who make jokes relating to his tragic disability, treat him lower than themselves because he tries to brighten the mood a little.. what kind of perverse societal values is that? Joe is so much more than a pushover whose sole purpose is to be made the butt of numerous jokes, he’s a kind person, a loving husband, a proud father, a whimsical drinking buddy. This man possesses so many qualities that make him a great person and yet he isn’t treated like how he should. He hasn’t done anything wrong and frankly, I’m greatly disappointed in Peter & the gang for essentially outcasting him from their table. Even Cleveland, who silently watched it unfold and didn’t even utter a word in defense of the blatant mistreatment of his so-called “friend”. I’m disappointed, truly, I am.
