the cast system used to be about your spiritual consciousness the more spiritually connected you were the higher on the cast system you were. Because of the invasion of the mughal empire this system was changed to social status until the British came and changed the caste system to be about how white/pale you are and because the British colonized india so long they(indians) forgot what the caste system really was about spirituality. And after india got its independence from britain they abolished the caste system so its only affective in families who do think they are better than other indians because of their skin colour. Not to say that india couldn't change this but it is context as to why Indians are often colorist coming from an Indian. And most of india is actually clean just because there are parts of india that are dirty that doesn't mean the whole country is. Just like not every African country is poor.
