When I was early into my pregnancy, a woman in my online circle tried to “warn” me about being a mother, & i how would end up regretting it. She said & I quote “motherhood will swallow you up EVEN if you do have a support system”. I was even asked if I considered a termination. For weeks her words worried me, and made me doubt myself & my own body. “Why would you want to be a mother knowing the reality of it”, “if you wanna breastfeed, your next years will be voided of personal space”. I exclusively breastfeed, & (shocker) enjoy it. “You think being a mom is romantic & pretty, it’s painful”. Giving birth was the most painful thing I have ever done, but it’s also my biggest accomplishment & I look forward to when I get to do it again. All pain is not equal. “You’re 22, you haven’t even got the chance of knowing who you are”. I have known for as long as I can remember that I wanted to be a mother & live a life surrounded by children. “You will remember this conversation one way or another, even if it’s just a “what if” before you go to sleep.” What if I had listened to her? I would have never known my baby, never knew how I could accomplish unmediated childbirth, or know the incomparable feeling of having a baby you grew inside of you with an organ you made from scratch, placed upon your chest. I remembered her words again after easing so naturally into motherhood. How boring and meaningless my life would have been if I had taken her seriously. Just because something can be challenging at times doesn’t mean it’s miserable. If you are pregnant right now & scared, don’t let the anti-child society we have become affect you. Your child will turn your life technicolor. #motherhood #edit #girlblogger
