But what I contribute as a mum, the emotional labour, the mental load, the invisible work that keeps our family running, that matters just as much. Different, but equal. One thing that’s made a huge difference for us? He protects my mornings. Most days, he’s with the kids so I can get to Pilates. And I do the same for him, football, the gym, whatever fills his cup because we both know that how we show up for ourselves shapes how we show up for each other and our kids. The real secret though? We talk. When one of us is stretched thin, longer work hours, a rough week, a baby who won’t sleep, we say it out loud instead of waiting for resentment to build. Then we figure it out together.
