My mom was my favorite person. I came out to her back in 2012 when i was 20. She wasn’t the physically loving type and wasn’t always good with her words. I didn’t exactly use my words when i came out i bought a pride beacelet and threw it her lap and speed walked to my room. I left my door open and she came to my room and said what is this. I told her what do you think it is. She said gay, and i said yes. She told me “if you like it i love it”. Wasnt the best choice of words but it was a start. A couple days later me, my mom and my stepdad were watching a tv show. I still remember the show and the episode. Where the son of the main character came out. When her and my stepdad went to bed i could hear them talking and i heard her ask him “how would you feel if you had a gay son”. He said i would love them regardless. I never felt more loved in my life because she did that.

I experience a similar thing where I didn’t get to love people fully cause I was hiding who I really am from them. I didn’t come out but they found out. Even though they didn’t accept me I still felt this immense pressure go away I felt so relieved to be seen for the first time even though I was experiencing homophobia and hatred towards me like never. If u can don’t live in hiding come out be ur self and show them who u really are it will feel amazing despite the hate u will face because at the end of the day they will hate/love u and nothing will change their mind about homosexuality.

This really means a lot cause I’ve been going through the exact same thing and I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve prayed that these feelings would just go away, but I just recently accepted who I am and even though I’m not ready to tell my family or anyone else in my life yet, you’ve really inspired me and it just makes me feel less alone to know someone else is going through the same thing. Anyways, so happy that your family accepted you and you’ve accepted yourself❤️

i’m glad ur family accepted you! don’t ever beat urself up for being scared and not telling anyone. you knew how society treats gay ppl and you reacted to protect yourself, always give urself grace bc u are just surviving in an unaccepting world
