I'm pretty sure this scene was supposed to be a gag were both misunderstand what they're talking about. Killua thinks dating someone immediately leads to something physical, meanwhile Gon thinks dating is just hanging out with someone privately. Gon would go on "dates" with women at the island (just showing them around) and they would teach him "stuff" (probably how to be a gentleman which is why he knew how to handle a date with Palm) and Killua obviously thought about it in a more perverted way. the people calling them "cougars" also thought the dates were more perverted. I mean if everyone in the island knew about it then it means Mito also knew about it and I don't think she would be okay with random grown women dating his son 😭
