@steven: How can your phone give off the wrong signal with someone? Attorney and communication expert Jefferson Fisher calls it the "string theory" of connection: simply having a phone visible on the table breaks conversational connection. He argues that a phone's presence signals divided attention, leaving you half-present and making the other person feel disrespected. His fix to this is if you want someone to feel like the only person in the room, silent isn't enough. You need to ensure that the phone is away. #phone #communication #DidYouKnow #thediaryofaceo #podcasting
this includes smart watch notifications.. it's equally as disconnecting.

It’s interesting how some people immediately associate placing your phone face down with cheating

I NEVER take my phone out while dining or having coffee with someone. I remember life without cell phones and that is what I long for. People were WAY more present.

why would I go to all that trouble when the other person would do the exact same thing that I’m being told not to do?

If the phone is placed face down with a case, the screen would be less likely to break if something were to be dropped on it. 📱💪 The cost of replacing the back glass is considerably lower than that of the AMOLED screen. 💸♻️This could potentially save you money, especially if you utilize AppleCare, and it would also benefit Apple financially while contributing to environmental sustainability. 🍎🌳

Such a great reminder of how to show respect towards people we meet and engage with. With nowadays distractions, we just lost the minimum bare common sense of paying attention to someone and be 100% involved in the communication process.

My husband takes his phone to work with him, but when he’s home, it’s never in his hand or if we go out to eat, he always leaves his phone at home. I do appreciate that I do have my phone with me, but it’s always in my purse, we really enjoy each other‘s company. We’re silly. We laugh a lot. We’re very passionate and I gotta say I appreciate all those things.

It’s all pretensive performative nonsense. As a father, I’m keeping my phone on the desk face up … you don’t want to be the dude to miss an emergency for your child. Forget these people who judge you for putting the phone on the desk face up. These diary of a ceo crap is all nonsense. No way shape or form im going to prioritize the person sitting across the lunch table over having immediate access to my family
