The Rif has a long history of resistance and warfare. Most famously, during the Rif War (1921–1926), Riffian fighters under Abdelkrim El Khattabi defeated Spanish and European colonial armies and briefly established the Rif Republic, a remarkable military and political achievement for an indigenous people. Genetic studies suggest only minimal Arab admixture (around 8% or less), highlighting their remarkable preservation. Known for their pride, honor, and warrior spirit, Riffians have always fought for their land, freedom, and autonomy — a people who advance independently, loyal to their roots and dignity.
