hahahahahahaah the molecular level shit it's just outreageous. you can say film gets some pretier texture or whatever but giving the "molecular level" speech is just bollocks. I can say from digital that is just storing straght light whithout any intermidiates or reactions which makes the thing exactly like your eyes do. Molecules don't have anything to do with the fucking resolution. being deliberate is just how you aproach the shoot. you can have more flexibility but also deliberately make fixed decisions and not wait for post. Those msusic videos that you mention where not only shoot on film because it was the best thing that there was available but also the 35mm film is wuthin the 2K-4K resolution so that's why you can rescan and master, today we're using cameras over that like the 265 or the Venice 2 on 8.6k (it's new rialto block with a 65 sensor is going to be 9.6K). Professional data storage for film and TV is not done with SSDs is done on LTO tape machines that are hold in a climate controlled cabinet and last much longer than SSDs or HDDs.

You’re going to get into issues with diffraction long before you resolve a piece of film. Film has hypothetically infinite resolution, but many, many effective limitations that stop that from happening. The romance of film is undeniable, but you’re not correct in a lot of ways.

This entire conversation is made pointless by the bottleneck that is movie projectors. There are less than 100 IMAX projectors in the world and IMAX is incapable of manufacturing more. The overwhelming majority of viewers won't ever get to see the difference between the various camera types.

Recently they re-scanned and re-released the Thriller by Michael Jackson Music video in 4K, a video FILMED IN 1983. This would be literally impossible with digital content without AI reconstruction (and that’s just guessing pixels, not having the original ones) or something like that, with digital you are stuck at max resolution you shoot.

Yup. I feel you and agree with everything you are saying. I studied on 8mm and my thesis was on super 16mm. Taking time to make decisions and organizing myself through film does mean better ideas rise.

To say film makes technically superior images to digital right now is an absurd claim. I happen to think that film is more beautiful than digital by default, and I enjoy shooting 35mm for stills, but to make an entire movie on IMAX is simply a waste of resources.

Film stock is almost infinitely up scalable. Digital your stuck with the resolution you capture it in unless you use ai to upscale
