My mother told me that the superstition comes from the fact that the original blue is made from pastel plants (woad) which does in fact repel certain insects, and that the recipe for making pastel bleu is a secret that the makers from the region still guard

In Dalmatia we paint them dark green :) but there's one person who painted them blue. He must be inspired by the French or green ones lol. It doesn't fit well with the surrounding tho 😏

I like these because you come across as approachable, personable and amiable. Every time I speak French I expect based on general culture (maybe misplaced) beliefs that French people are going to be cunty and mean when they speak to people which makes me afraid to learn French because I feel like I’m just going to get abused.
