To Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). This is the go-to temperature for most homemade yellow cakes. Grease and flour your pan(s), or line with parchment for easy release. To Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). This is the go-to temperature for most homemade yellow cakes. Grease and flour your pan(s), or line with parchment for easy release. (For rounds, grease and flour; for 9x13, parchment on the bottom helps.) In a large bowl (or stand mixer), combine the dry mix with: 3 large eggs ½ cup melted butter (or softened butter creamed in first for better texture) 1 cup milk (room temperature if possible) Vanilla (about 1–2 tsp; "splash" is fine, but 1½–2 tsp gives great flavor) Mix on low speed until combined, then beat on medium for 1–2 minutes until smooth and fluffy (don't overmix). Scrape down the bowl as needed. The batter will be thick but pourable. Baking time (start checking early—ovens vary!): 9x13-inch pan (one layer/sheet cake): 25–35 minutes. Edges pull away, top springs back when lightly touched, and a toothpick in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. Two 8-inch or 9-inch round pans (for layer cake): 20–30 minutes (closer to 22–28 for 9-inch, a bit longer for 8-inch). Same toothpick test. Cupcakes (if you divide the batter): 15–20 minutes. Tips for success: For extra moisture and classic yellow color, room-temp ingredients help emulsify better. Don't overbake—yellow cake dries out quickly. Cool in the pan 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a rack. Frost with your favorite (chocolate, vanilla buttercream, etc.) once fully cooled. This yields a buttery, homemade flavor far better than boxed—perfect for birthdays or just because! If it's denser than expected next time, you could add a bit more baking powder (up to 1 Tbsp total) or try cake flour for a finer crumb. This recipe can be doubled or quadrupled or any amount needed. Enjoy your fresh yellow cake! Let me know how it turns out. #pantry #cakerecipe #homemade #yellowcake
