The main difference between Thanos & Doctor Doom is actually nothing to do with their screentime. The Infinity Stones is the key difference, they are in nearly every movie and so when we see that is what Thanos wants we already care so much because of the history of the Infinity Stones

the thing is too is that thanos was present even when he wasn’t actually present on screen. we had build up towards kang but have randomly switched towards doom it just all feels like a random afterthought.

but the thing is, outside of the mcu, doom is HUGE for marvel. probably their greatest villain period. meanwhile thanos doesn't even hit top 10. you kinda don't need any buildup in the movies, you already know who he is. not to mention thanos wasn't built up rly at all either outside of small cameos and post credit scenes. all of his most important stuff was in infinity war

They planted the seeds like so perfectly. You began to almost care about the stones if that makes sense or at the very least you knew a lot about them from the movies and they were the main object in around 75% of the movies leading up to infinity wars

Sure, Thanos may have only shown up a handful of times before Infinity war, but that doesn't mean he wasn't colluding in the shadows. Almost every single movie from Avengers to Infinity War had a small tease or Easter egg that when you look back, all roads lead to Thanos

Thanos Had his "Fine I'll do it myself" moment which was so built up to and even just that moment alone is more than what we've gotten from doom and doom is one of my all time favourite characters. This isn't going to be Doom.

they had 10 years of build up to Endgame, he was talked about and the stones were referenced in most of the films, Doom is a last min replacement because of what happened to Kang, nowhere near thr same

The buildup to Thanos wasn't a direct buildup to him as much as it was building up the power of the infinity stones. The stones were repeatedly featured in movies and their strength made incredibly apparent. They built up the power of Thanos by building up the stones.

Is everyone forgetting we got a full appearances with significant screen time and lines in GOTG Vol 1? And not to mention he was spoken about as a major threat and fear throughout the entirely of the film. Also the fact that we learn all the way then that his goal was to collect the stones

I still think it’s crazy that even though there’s been somewhat of a precedent for different versions of characters having different actors (Reed Richards etc), Marvel really decided to be really stubborn on NOT having Kang be portrayed by someone else in Kang Dynasty, feels like they shot themselves in the foot by pivoting from their actual setup to a different character entirely

No one is claiming that because it didn’t happen. The lead up was for Kang until they pivoted. There has been no Doom lead up.
