MY COUNTRY DESERVES RESPECT As a Kazakh and as an ENGENE, I want to speak from my heart. I hope there will be a sincere apology to Kazakhstan. This isn’t just about a T-shirt. The Borat character is built on racist stereotypes that have damaged my country’s image for decades. Those stereotypes have made people laugh at Kazakhstan instead of learning who we really are. For many Kazakhs, this isn’t funny-it is painful. Kazakhstan has a long history filled with both pride and tragedy. Our people fought to preserve our land, language, and identity through centuries of hardship. We survived colonization, political repression, and one of the worst famines in our history in the early 1930s, when millions of Kazakhs died or were forced to leave their homeland. Many of our intellectuals and national leaders were persecuted and executed during the Soviet era. In 1986, during the Jeltoqsan protests, young people peacefully stood up for their dignity and their country’s future, but many were violently suppressed. Despite all of this, Kazakhstan preserved its culture, traditions, language, and identity. That is what we are proud of. That is why it hurts when our country is reduced to racist stereotypes instead of being recognized for its real history, culture, and resilient people. I’m saying this with respect, not hate. I support ENHYPEN, and that’s exactly why I hope this situation will be taken seriously.
