TikTok muted the video at full length due to copyright claims, so I had to edit it to one minute. Adina Howard's career derailment in the mid-1990s was primarily caused by a highly publicized love triangle, a personal dispute with her record label executive, and the subsequent shelving of her second album. The Love Triangle: Following the success of her 1995 debut album Do You Wanna Ride? and the hit single "Freak Like Me," Howard became involved in a romantic relationship with Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men. This relationship caused tension because Morris was reportedly also involved with singer Brandy, who was a high-profile, "good girl" image artist on the same label. Label Conflict: Sylvia Rhone, then-head of EastWest Records, advised Howard to focus on her music rather than the personal drama. The "Diss" and Shelving: Howard publicly criticized both Brandy and Sylvia Rhone during a radio interview with Wendy Williams. In retaliation for these comments and the continued, disruptive drama, Rhone halted the release of Howard’s sophomore album, effectively stalling her momentum at the height of her popularity. Industry Consequences: The unreleased album meant a lack of promotion and radio play, which made it difficult for Howard to recover her, at the time, "red hot" career. "Freak like Me" is a song by American R&B singer Adina Howard, released on January 25, 1995, by labels East West and Lola Waxx, as the debut single from her first album, Do You Wanna Ride? (1995). The song reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks, as well as number two on the Billboard Hot R&B Singleschart for four weeks and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of one million copies.
