I’m so worried about money for University despite getting a higher maintenance loan, it’s never enough 🙈

no bc its actually ridiculous that we could pay off thousands & still have the remaining balance be higher than that we started with bc of the interest.. & the fact that working class students who needed the maximum loan to get through uni are the ones who end up suffering the most trying to pay it back in the end!!

YES! THISSSSS i’m a triplet and both my parents work and are together and earn over the amount but to send THREE kids to uni isn’t do able so we can’t all go to uni at the same time as we just can’t afford it even with working ourselves!

I get minimum which is like around 5000 or something but my accommodation is like 8700 which is crazy so my parents have to pay for that themselves and then the money i do have is for living expenses but just because on the outside it looks like we have money we also have very high taxes on my parents earnings sp having 2 kids at uni and having to pay for their accommodation is ridiculous i honestly think they should consider siblings and whether that sibling is at uni or at home as that can be a big factor on money that we have and obviously 2 siblings isnt a huge amount but imagine 3 siblings all that uni thats very hard

It’s so bad the repay system. I get highest maintenance thankfully and I’m on a bursary to help with accommodation (thank goodness) but I know I’ll still struggle and I think that’s RIDICULOUS like what do you mean I’m getting so so much help and yet I’m going to struggle

Only one of my parents work, don’t own a house etc… And I only get £6000. At Durham rent is so crazy. I saved around 6k in my gap year and still won’t have enough. Having to beg extended family for money for food shops etc… It’s not right that I’ll pay back more than I’ll ever see whilst I’m at Uni even though I’m living horribly, having to get the cheapest food possible and not being able to even get small treats etc… I’d be fine paying it all back over time but ONLY if I can live somewhat comfortably whilst I’m at uni.

the whole reason I can fund being at uni is being on PIP because I'm disabled. I feel incredibly guilty for it

Worked 2 jobs the first 2 years to try and cover the extra rent money and live and just about managed. Just taken a year out to save for 3rd year and about to go back in September. If any of you guys can delay and get some money then do it! I suffered so much with having to work so much I was struggling with keeping up with uni work but if you have to you can do it its just hard ❤️

it's also unfair on women who often pay it off over a longer period with child care ect. can you sort this out or is it a done thing?

Honestly definitely think it’s bette to leave school and work, build up money and then go to uni as a mature student where your loan isn’t dependant on your parents earnings and if you save your earnings it will help with surviving uni

Andy Burnham should scrap University fees ! Because students pay more Tax when qualified , So the government gets more revenue from them in a lifetime.
