she doesn't reject you she adores, respects The Dragonborn, contrary to popular belief, "I think you're great, but that's not for us" after asking her to marry you, lore wise she's been with you the entire time from the moment you became dragonborn to the moment you defeated Miraak(if you've taken her with you and your first stop was the Dawnguard DLC after reaching lvl.30) she developed strong feelings but because of the cult SA ritual Trauma she can never step foot in a church of any of the 9 divines. so she's not rejecting you she's really saying "I love you but we don't need a ceremonial ritual for it to be fact, let's just continue as we have been."

i think my big problem with nor being able to romance serena is the idea that abused people cant recover. that they cant find fufiling realionships after being abused. alot of media does this. they make the r*ped or domestic abuse character and make them un-romanceble. and to me alot of the time it reeks of the bullshit "damaged goods" shit. (alot of people relate her unromancbleness to her vamperic orgins. where she was r*ped thousands of years ago by a dadric prince. Basically her father "offered" her to him to gain power. also i gain imense join in killing her father in every playthrough cus fuck that bastard.) whats more serana was orginally supoused to be romanceble. they just never finished her quest line. theres even bits of the old unfinished questline in the games code. that being said (as someone who both has sexual trauma and is maried to another person with sexual trauma) i also worry that a bad writer will downplay the trauma in romancing a traumatized person. that they'll make the romance just happen without any work. loving a traumatized person isnt always an easy thing. it takes work, dedication, and understanding.
