Most of this is falsehood, in Australia a locomotive can pull very many carriages

Because trains from station to another station is a useless train to transport anything.

with Ai, it could have multiple pulling points if that's the only issue

Depends on what country your talking about. In Australia we have mining trains that reach 7.3 Kilometers or 4.5 miles long with 682 iron ore carriages pulled by 8 diesel electric locomotives. If that's not big enough then I don't know what would be !

I don't want to put my physics and mathematics cap on. But couldn't a coordinated effort between a front engine and a rear engine mitigate these issues? Almost like rope towing a car. The rear car is the main brake. Having a powerful rear engine not only helps the cars moving forward, but can maintain/adjust slack.

Don aka Tweety :
Longer trains mean a lower operarion ratio equating, more profit and proving PSR is ridiculous. Trains were not allowed to be more than 8500 ft unless distributed power was added. It also allowed the air brake system to operate efficiently and even 8500ft was a stretch. Now, trains can be 10,000ft before distributed power is needed. This is a problem for stopping because it takes longer for the air brakes to set up and in cold weather the air system can freeze easier from moisture in the brake pipe. The air acts like a wave moving back n forth in the air system. Longer trains slows this process. Greedy class one railroads add approximately 10- 15 more cars to stay within the new 10,000 ft rule. This is actually unsafe, but profit is more important.
