I designed an ice cube tray for a client that was launched on kickstarter. The fake copies were in shops even before we could officially launch the product 😳 The copycats even applied for patents and got it in some countries, even though we had patents pending. Fortunately one of the partners in my clients company run an IP Lawfirm, so they were able to counter many of the offenders - but wow, it was/is expensive to enforce copyright and patents. Several hundred thousand dollars per year 😒 They say that imitation is the greatest flattery - but it's not exactly the kind of flattery anybody would appreciate.
