as a chinese maybe because most of us were taught since childhood about :
- mianzi ( saving face, as a man we ought to have dignity and not bring shame to our family while we still can work it out, unless when you're hit rock bottom )
- the system of reciprocity ( guan xi, Accepting help means you now owe the other person, which can weigh heavily on a person's conscience
- Struggling in silence is often viewed as a virtuous demonstration of strength and resilience in traditional confucian.
hence why tipping is also considered offensive in china. Maybe not all chinese people hold that value, but surely this kid still did and it's great to see.

How ironic...his response to the offers for assistance make me want to help him all the more. Very commendable of him wanting to achieve his success on his own. Thank you so much for the update!

even though he said he dont want help, please let him know that so many people still want to help him 🥺 i understand as chinese people feel its 不好意思,or to feel responsible for their own family matters, but he and his sister, as young adults, should be doing what other yound adults are doing too. they deserve that 🥺 their parents too. 加油 🙏🙏

I know he doesn’t want free help. But if he’s selling something, there would be people here willing to buy or support his business

He won't see this message, but I'm proud of him. I hope life is kind to him. And I think something should be done even if he refuses help.🤍

This Mama from Germany would love to pay his rent for a month. Or just buy him something that gives him joy. It’s so sweet and kind that he doesn’t want any help but he’s so young and I just want him to be as happy and carefree as possible

So humble life definitely isnt easy for this kid, but he wont admit it because its just a cultural difference. Please set up the fundraiser still, if you do it and give it to him prepared he might accept it.

Blind Girl Vs The Building :
I know you speak the language snd you live there, but certain Chinese ways of foing this is one… we don’t ask if someone needs help or how we can help, or even offer it. You TELL them, “Here, this is a gift without ANY obligation of repayment bc I appreciate how good you’ve been to me. You MUST ACCEPT IT. “ — That way, it fies not come across as charity or msking them feel it is their need or situation, but that you genuinely appreciate the gift of THEIR friendship and how much you value it. That is the Chinese way. To find ways to give to those we care about without making it seem like it is charity.
