Pay your injured mechanic to sit down and interview incoming mechanics. He will have a better idea of who to filter through

Yeah you’re not supporting a good mechanic. No ac in Florida, you’re definitely hurting your bottom line with reduced production. Your equipment has to be top of the line to attract good help.

Ask them to explain diagnostics, ask them what the fastest/best tools to use are. There’s only one answer.

Bro just keep doing tires. All that other shit is doing too much for the set up that you have. You want quality mechanics. Well guess what? Quality mechanics don't want to work outside in the sweltering summer heat. All you're gonna get is shade tree mechanics. Used tires, new tires, and maybe brakes. All that other shit is too much.

Rob, techs are very hard to come by. It's a dying breed. AI taking over the world, but they AI can't fix cars. Guys, gals, this industry needs good techs.

I’ve said this so many times before, the level of mechanic/tech you’re looking for is either A doing it for themselves and making bank. Or is already at a salary position + commission somewhere else. Facilities, tools, clients are all things mechanics look at before going to work there. If I were you I’d stick to easy jobs. Brakes, tires, fluid changes, etc. Stop doing timing. Stop doing motor work. Stop doing swaps. And get the guys coming right out of school or have little experience. Let them do all the low level jobs and understand you’ll be a revolving door unfortunately. Unless you increase facilities, tools, and clients nobody worth a shit is gonna last long regardless of how much money you give them. Unless it’s an exorbitant amount.

The good ones are mobile mechanics. They got tired of being fired, not given a chance. Getting let go and dropped when the work gets slow, bad pay, bad company around the shop. 3 of us became a team. I still have my first ratchet set from Walmart and do just fine with it. I just have way more now. Just bc someone doesn’t have a house loan worth of tools doesn’t mean they deserve less. TBH the trade is toxic. Ppl want top techs but don’t want to teach. They expect the best, you can’t beat loyalty.
