Day 1 of Rating Chess legends a new series!♟️ The Life of Bobby Fischer Robert James “Bobby” Fischer (1943–2008) was one of the most famous and controversial chess players ever. 1943: Born in Chicago, USA, on March 9. Age 6: Learned chess and quickly became fascinated with the game. 1956: At age 13, he played the famous “Game of the Century” against Donald Byrne. 1958: At only 15, Fischer became the youngest grandmaster at the time. 1960s: He became the strongest American chess player and challenged the dominance of Soviet players. 1972: Fischer defeated Soviet champion Boris Spassky in the World Chess Championship in Reykjavík, Iceland. He won 12½–8½, becoming the first American-born world chess champion. 1975: Fischer refused to play his planned title defense against Anatoly Karpov after disagreements over the championship rules. He was stripped of the title. 1992: Fischer returned to competitive chess and played Spassky again in Yugoslavia, winning the unofficial rematch. 2008: Fischer died in Reykjavík, Iceland, at age 64. Why was he so important? Fischer helped make chess extremely popular in the United States. His 1972 match against Spassky became known as the “Match of the Century” because it was not only a chess battle but also a major Cold War-era event. He was famous for his extraordinary calculation, deep preparation, aggressive play, and intense dedication to chess. His life outside chess was also highly controversial, making him one of the most fascinating figures in chess history.#CapCut #viral #fyp #chess #xbyzca
