If you point to a yellow banana and ask, “What colour is this?” don’t be surprised if your child says, “Banana.” Why? Because you’re asking them to identify two things at once, the object and its colour. Children learn best when we reduce confusion, not increase it. If you’re teaching colours, let the lesson be about colours. If you’re teaching fruits, let the lesson be about fruits. One concept at a time. Great teaching isn’t about giving children more information. It’s about presenting information in a way their brains can process. Sometimes, when a child gets the wrong answer, the problem isn’t the child, it’s the method. As parents and educators, our responsibility is to make learning simpler, clearer, and more meaningful.
