I’ve always found it weird that he was like /basically/ her mentor, guiding her the entire time she was on the journey, and then just became her mate? Like I know he was never ‘legally’ her mentor, it was dustpelt I believe, but she was barely in camp with that mentor, she was on a journey… being trained… by BRAMBLECLAW. Like that WHOLE time. And then no one mentions it as part of the casual grooming in warrior cats, it’s just ignored??? Hello???

if im being honest whenever i see someone use squirrelflight not telling him about the three's parentage as justification of bramblestar's treatment of her (especially when squirrel was explicitly manipulated into that decision by starclan) i just assume they don't like women and it IS that serious to me

I’m in enemy territory rn but ima speak on brambleclaw’s matter. Yes he trained with his father and brother yes he held those secrets. Which is WHY squirrelflight was upset with him not because he was hanging with hawkfrost (during his time of living). That is WHY squirrelflight started hanging out with ashfur not because she liked him or anything it’s simply because she viewed ashfur as someone who can hold accountability and ashfur unfortunately took it the wrong way. So when the day came when Squirrelflight admitted that the three weren’t her kits that’s why brambleclaw flipped because it’s all coming back to “holding secrets”. They rekindled their relationship because Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight both understood that secrets needed to be told and accounted for. And Squirrelflight failed at that. Which I understand why brambleclaw was upset. I quote from the book (chapter 27, page 307): Brambleclaw was the first to move, padding forward until he stood face to face with Squirrelflight. “Why?” He Meowed. Squirrelflight’s voice was desperate. “I had to! She’s my sister!” “And you couldn’t trust me?” Brawmbleclaw’s voice was shaking. (Then after this it describes hollyleaf’s feelings during this moment). Squirrelflight did not reply, just held his gaze without flinching. “You couldn’t trust me,” he repeated “Don’t you think I would have helped you, if you’d told me the truth? But it’s too late now”./ If squirrelflight had told him the truth from the beginning he would have helped. So he is reaction at the time was very valid and Squirrelflight deserved it to extent. Though squirrelflight is a very well written cat and so was brambleclaw, tragically they both became the things they were so scared to be. Brambleclaw became the cat he swore he never wanted to be (evil like his dad) and Squirrelflight did end up following her father’s footsteps (being a leader). Which I recalled back in midnight she was frustrated that she was firestar’s daughter and felt like she had to live up to a certain expectation. Now…The events as when brambleclaw gets possessed by ashfur that’s a different story that crazy ass cat was really obsessed with Squirrelflight bruh.
