As a dark romance reader, the fact Haunting Adeline got SO incredibly mainstream is upsetting for both sides. Genuinely it is not a beginner book and it’s not a read that you should be comfortable with. I read the first book, I’m not interested in the second because I personally don’t want to read about fictional trafficking, and I didn’t enjoy the first book enough to consider reading more. Zade is a hypocritical rapist, despite this it was semi-consensual. The lack of consent doesn’t mean the book shouldn’t exist. People have different interests It’s as simple as that. Circling back. Not all dark romance contains 🍇. (I can list some if asked, but this comment is long enough) Regardless I will soon be picking up yellow wallpaper in honor of this video, as I’ve got base knowledge on it as it’s been referenced in literature I’ve read.

I said this under another comment section, but I read the book and even with the rape aside, the author is HELLA inconsistent with Zade in which she attempts to set up "redeeming" qualities for him and then ends up forgetting about it the very next chapter. Example: in one chapter he tosses a cigarette on the ground and Addie tells him that it's bad to litter, and Zade immediately picks it up and says "it'll never happen again baby". And then he proceeds to do the exact same thing the very next chapter.

people always say “they hate Haunting Adeline but love Handmaids Tale.” Handmaids Tale is good literature and it considered to be and AP literature level book, and can be used in the essay portion of the exam. not only that, the story is set in a dystopian world, and knowing Hunger Games, it will be messy. Haunting Adeline is not a dystopian book, it has many elements of what the world looks like today and its clear that it romanticizes 🍇.

I’ve had an English teacher recommend Haunting Adeline to the girls in my class, she was just going on and on abt how good it was and how she “just couldn’t put it down!!”
