Have you ever had to kiss your kids goodbye on Christmas morning because you had to head into work? I’m calling out all healthcare workers… nurses, CNAs, respiratory therapists, X-ray techs, lab, ER, ICU, EMS, surgical staff, housekeeping, dietary, anyone who keeps our hospitals and healthcare facilities running. Have you ever had to work Christmas morning? Miss opening presents? Skip Christmas breakfast? Celebrate the holiday on a completely different day because your shift came first? I know that feeling all too well. I remember watching everyone else post pictures in their pajamas while I was putting on scrubs. I remember missing traditions, family time, and moments I can never get back. It’s one of the sacrifices so many people don’t see when you work in healthcare. I’ll always be grateful for my nursing career and for the lives I was able to impact, but if I’m being honest, I don’t miss missing the moments that mattered most to me. Today, my life looks completely different. I now make more through digital marketing than I ever did as a nurse, and for the first time in my adult life, I don’t have to worry about working weekends, holidays, or missing Christmas morning with my family. I get to choose how I spend my time, and that freedom has been worth more than I can put into words.
