@automationhistory: #EmClimaUltraLeve How do you sort thousands of packages every hour without chaos? Episode 172 — The Automatic Parcel Sorting Conveyor (1913) As America’s postal system and mail-order businesses exploded in the early 1900s, workers struggled to keep up. Every package had to be carried, sorted, and routed by hand, creating delays and costly mistakes. Beginning around 1913, automated parcel sorting conveyors started transforming mail and package handling. Instead of workers carrying every parcel across a warehouse, powered conveyor systems moved packages automatically from one station to the next. Workers no longer chased the packages. The packages came to the workers. This simple change dramatically increased speed, reduced injuries, and made it possible to process millions of parcels with remarkable efficiency. Today, every major distribution center—from postal facilities to Amazon, UPS, FedEx, and modern automated warehouses—still relies on the same principle. The belts are faster. The sensors are smarter. The robots are newer. But the idea remains the same: Move the product automatically so people can focus on the decisions that matter. Automation History — Episode 172.
