Unfortunately, many Black women are often faced with the stigma of having a “high tolerance” for pain. As a result, pain medication is often withheld from them. The conclusion is that if you are a Black woman and you request pain medicine you only want it for abusive reasons, NOT for pain. Even when the pain medication is unequivocally needed, Black women are still required to provide an extra measure of proof to convince their doctors to give them pain medication. This applies to all income, education, and career brackets.
