@greatestmusiccomposer: You've probably heard this melody without ever knowing its name. For decades, an airline used four minutes of a 19th-century opera to sell the idea of a peaceful flight — two voices floating over gentle strings, calm enough to make anyone forget they're thousands of feet in the air. Millions of people know this music only from television and film, long before they ever heard the word "opera" attached to it. It comes from "Lakmé," an 1883 opera by the French composer Léo Delibes, largely forgotten outside opera houses today except for one moment: the Flower Duet. In the story, Lakmé and her servant Mallika sing it together at a riverbank, gathering flowers before bathing — a few minutes of stillness before the opera turns tragic. Delibes wrote dozens of ballets and operas in his lifetime. Almost none of them are remembered today. This duet is the one piece of his music the whole world still knows — most of it without ever knowing his name. 💬 Did you know you've probably heard this one on a plane? Tell me in the comments. 🎼 Léo Delibes — Lakmé, "Flower Duet" (Duo des fleurs), 1883 🎹 Follow @greatestmusiccomposer for the stories behind the greatest music ever written. #delibes #flowerduet #classicalmusic #voice #solo

Absolutely 😊Love this flowers' duet 🥰

Santi Fernández :

En España la pieza se popularizó por su utilización en varias escenas de la película "La mano que mece la cuna" y un autor desconocido Leo Delibes pasó a ser de lo más demandado en las secciones de música clásica de los grandes almacenes.
