@visual.healthlab: ACDF Surgery Explained | C5-C6 & C6-C7 Cervical Fusion Animation Has your doctor recommended ACDF surgery for a C5-C6 or C6-C7 disc herniation? This animation shows how the damaged cervical disc is removed, the compressed nerve is relieved, and the spine is stabilized using a fusion cage, plate, and screws. If you’ve had ACDF surgery, how long has your recovery been? Are you feeling better, or are you still living with neck pain, arm pain, or numbness? Share your experience in the comments. #ACDFSurgery #CervicalFusion #C5C6 #NeckPain #spinesurgery

Use a Neuro surgeon instead of Ortho. Most likely have less recovery symptoms. Not always but the approach is different and more conservative

I had this surgery (C4-C6) 5 weeks ago. Recovery was rough the first 2 weeks but now pain is managed with ibuprofen. I start PT today and hope to get back to the Gym in a few weeks. The pain that prompted the surgery is gone! I was super scared to get the surgery but now I'm glad I did, and feel like things are just gonna keep getting better. No regrets.

I actually had it done in 2019 due to this being completely gone and nerves are getting pinched six years later through paying gradually getting worse as long as with my fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and so forth scan finally showed I ended up with two failed fusions in that area and now I have surgery coming up September 10, as I cannot even do anything every day work or activities without suffering from it to try and fix it.

I had C3-C6 ACDF surgery last October. The surgery itself went great but while in recovery I developed a LARGE hematoma in my neck and it cut my air way completely off. They had to intubate me and I guess I ripped the tube completely out (I have no memory of it). My friend said it took about 8-9 nurses to hold me down so they could re-sedate me and re-intubate me and rush me back into surgery. And they kept me in an induced coma for a day or two. When I woke up, I could hardly talk and I couldn't swallow. They had to hook me up to a TPN bag for a few days. Then I was put on a soft & bite sized diet and had to have my liquids thickened and my meds had to be crushed. Two weeks later, I had to go to a nursing home for physical, occupational and speech therapy. I was discharged and went back home 4 months later and was able to go back to work a month after that. I'm on a regular diet and liquids now and can swallow my meds normally....I do still get choked up on the smaller pills though

I’m 15 weeks out. It was a rough recovery, but I’m pain free for the first time in years!! I had no idea that the pains I had in my arms and legs were related to my disc compressing on my spine. Every day I feel better! My doctor was awesome!
