You can settle cheaper with the original creditor then you can with a debt collection agency. That 1099C will still stand. And see if you can get a pay to delete. Not everybody offers one.

I have a debt that is over 10 years old. I guess another debt collector picked it up and now they are reaching out to me again. I thought anything over 7 years old cannot impact you.

Also make sure make sure the agreement is to pay for deletion of the debt off your credit report! Not many people know that you can pay a debt and it’ll still stick on your credit report UNLESS you specifically say this is to pay for deletion and of course make sure it’s in the written agreement.

I had one call me years ago with their “we’ve acquired this debt from…” spiel. My response was “then I guess it’s yours now. Enjoy. I never entered agreement with your company of X name”. Never heard another peep NOR anything on my credit. It’s been like 8 years

I have a lawyer dealing with my medical bills while we finish up my case (personal injury) and one of my bills got sent to a debt collector. The original biller knows I have a lawyer and have been in contact with them, the debt collector keeps calling me and THEY know I have a lawyer handling this. At this point I’m willing to just pay them double to get out of my face
