He was born on March 3, 1957, in Agarawu, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria. Wasiu Ayinde developed an interest in music at a young age and was mentored by the legendary Fuji pioneer Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. Under Barrister’s guidance, he learned the art of Fuji music and later developed his own unique style. He began his professional music career in the early 1980s and became famous after releasing several successful albums. K1 modernized Fuji music by blending it with elements of jazz, juju, and world music, helping the genre gain international recognition. Throughout his career, K1 De Ultimate has performed in many countries around the world and has released dozens of albums. His music is known for its rich Yoruba proverbs, wisdom, praise-singing, and messages about culture, unity, and hard work. He has received numerous awards and traditional titles for his contributions to music and Yoruba culture.
