Never trade in a car with negative equity, it puts you in a hole. Think about it, with negative equity, you don’t have a down payment, you have extra money added to your new loan. With positive equity, you trade in your car and that car will give you a down payment. Which means you pay less than if you bought it without the trade in. Pay off the car first, unless a new vehicle is 100% necessary
