sorry just one final comment since you say things are not easy when you are in competition mode. The solution? don't be in that mode be in kata mode.Be in sheer enjoyment mode.When you step on to the competition floor that space belongs to you all eyes are on you. So whatever kata you choose (I had a special fondness for heian sandan a very technical kyu kata than students realise and nijushiho beautiful ) you do the kata for you nor for the judges for you. Feel the joy, the exhilarating, the wonder of the body on motion p n in these complex body positions and just get lost in it for you. qhen I was judging I wanted to see that the kata came first for the karate ka not the competition.
