It's not just gender affirming care. As a masc lesbian, I had an orthopedic surgeon (a shoulder specialist) refuse to operate on my shoulder

this literally kills us. the documentary Southern Comfort is about a man dying because no one would treat his ovarian cancer in 2001

I, a cis dude, had a breast cancer scare and needed to go into a ultrasound lab to get things checked out. I was the only cis male there. the entire lab seemed to be catered towards women who were ALL giving me the eye about a man being in a "woman's" space. I can't imagine what it's like for trans people to have to go through that same experience.

i thought i was going to die waiting 18 hours in an er waiting room while a transphobic nurse refused to pass my scans onto a radiologist. i was told to get to that hospital within 45 minutes, and that i should be taken back immediately. that is how urgent my pc believed it was. i was told by a doctor there to file a complaint and take it as far as it would go. so if you might have an untreated ovarian torsion as a trans guy in calgary, dont go to peter laugheed. a random nurse might decide that you dont deserve to live.

I had to get a hysterectomy for medical reasons. At UW Medicine. My name has legally been changed for several years. I was called back by my dead name, the writing on the board was my dead name. I then was given anesthesia without numbing (this feels like fire going up your arm), was put into a surgical position that permanently damaged my shoulders, and discharged immediately upon waking up. Despite insisting I didn’t feel well and the large amount of blood I was losing. When visiting the ER the same night of the surgery, I was ignored for 7hours despite sobbing and losing consciousness repeatedly. They sent me home in the morning. No pain meds nothing. Just fluids and stuck in a room for hours alone. I went back to the ER a day later because my bf was so worried about me- I was pale, I was barely awake, and couldn’t eat anything and bleeding a lot. They take me back into surgery and found my surgeon had left me bleeding out internally. I was dying! Hospital deemed they did nothing wrong.

I had the pleasure of helping a trans man get his gyn care started at my small rural health obgyn clinic that I worked at in 2021. I asked him what I can do in the office to help him feel more comfortable coming to us for care, and he asked if there were any entrances other than the main lobby he can come into for his appointment so he didn’t have to be “paraded through the lobby” in front of other patients (those were his words). The entire clinic team was on board and we had him enter through our employee entrance and gave him a private lobby space to wait for the appointment. All of this to say, these actions we took are the bare freaking minimum we can offer in healthcare to make our patients experience the most comfortable possible

I’m thoroughly convinced that 95% of Americans have no clue that trans men exist. To them, trans means “man in a dress.”

health care lacks in so many ways. I had a hysterectomy, they still try to preg test me every time I go in for anything. migraine, preg test. gallbladder, preg test. I'm sewn shut. no housing. everything's gone 😆

Yesterday I went to the gynecologist after 3 years of ignoring it because of how hard it is to access for me. The doctor complained she couldn't order me tests the normal way because I'm M in the system and said I needed to talk to the administration to change it back to F. No. The system needs to let me access the care I need regardless. Systems that don't adjust to their user's needs are bad systems.

In an ideal world, I'd be a seahorse dad, but I'm so terrified of how I'd be handled or treated while pregnant that I'm not sure if I ever will get pregnant by choice in reality

That's because there has been so much slamming of trans women until not many have heard of trans men and are likely to suspect that trans men are trans women. For you guys to survive you have to fight for the trans women if not the next it gets to you.

why are they acting like they never even got an associates degree? it is such a simple concept i don’t understand why people suddenly lose all their brain cells when trans people enter the chat. it’s exhausting

The best way Ive overcome this area is I dont tell them Im trans. I make the appointment (even with a male name) and show up. They realize once im there and they take my ID(in FL you cant change your gender marker anymore) an they see that I was born a Female. Ive yet to have anyone turn me away. They do however misgender me the whole time but I can take it.
