Traditional advice would say “heal yourself before you get in a relationship” - but I heard some advice that really stuck with me. They said “things broken in relationship are healed in relationship” and I thought that was really profound

something that helps my partner and I is prefacing some questions with "No wrong answer: "
It clarifies that there is no ulterior motive, it is a genuine, looking for information type of question.

Some things that helped us survive the past, we bring into future relationships. It’s important to realize when it’s time to heal from those things. 🌼

I find in situations like this it's best to reframe and reword the questions, asking "did YOU REMEMBER to bring the mail in?" puts the emphasis on them doing something that could be interpreted as bad, instead ask "Hey, should I go grab the mail or did you already do it?" as this avoids making them think you would be mad if they didn't do the thing your asking but makes them think you are doing something mutually

I had to explain to my boyfriend today that I know that I got emotional and mad about something pretty small he did and I understand that I was overreacting but it doesn’t stop be from feeling it. I have PTSD with similar situations and get really scared he’s going to act like that person.

This is how a relationship should be. Communication is so important. Most people don’t communicate in a relationship. Im guilty of that too. Thats why im single 😓

Pretty crappy the way you said, "I had a feeling". That's the superiority bs that keeps people guessing.

My husband and I really struggled our first year. We're both traumatized and have unhealthy coping mechanisms. We've learned to be gentle with each other and apologize when we're not. We communicate after every "fight", "argument", or "spat". I worked very hard before our relationship to heal myself, but there are just some things I can't heal on my own and needed someone's help. We don't always react right at first, but we can sit down and talk it out, be understanding, and patient with one another. Don't let someone tell you, you have to be healed to be in a relationship, heal what you can before, disclose you can beforehand, and dive in. The right person will understand.
