A popular belief says most of the mortal remains of the woman who first saw the resurrected Christ are in various places in France, transferred there from Byzantium as a gift to the king of France from the king of Jerusalem in the ninth century. Catholicism has been “finding” bits of dead bodies and claiming that they’re holy relics for centuries. It’s a corruption was a way to attract the gullible and extract money. There were times when one church would steal popular relics from another.

I am Catholic,but,may I ask? Why is there a practice of taking away parts of the saint's bodies and call it as relics? The church says that the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Does it differ when the body is no longer alive?
