@darlene_liebman: I bet you don't know the real story of how Montauk was born. It starts with Carl G. Fisher one of the most ambitious real estate developers in American history. After transforming the swamps of Miami Beach into one of America's premier resort destinations, Fisher set his sights on the eastern tip of Long Island. His vision was simple: the wealthy would winter in Miami Beach and summer in Montauk. In the 1920s, he purchased more than 10,000 acres and began building an entire resort town from scratch. Roads, utilities, churches, homes, even a seven-story observation tower where buyers could see the future he imagined. He built the Montauk Manor, the Montauk Yacht Club, Montauk Downs Golf Course, and even carved an inlet through the Atlantic to create the deep-water harbor that still defines Montauk today. His dream was to create the Hamptons' ultimate playground for yachts, polo, golf, and beachfront estates. Then everything changed. The Florida land boom collapsed, the Great Depression followed, and Fisher lost nearly his entire fortune. By the time he died in 1939, the man who built Miami Beach had lost almost everything. But his vision survived. Nearly a century later, many of the landmarks Fisher created are still at the heart of Montauk, helping shape one of the most sought-after communities on the East End. I LOVE this Darlene. My dad was the lead contractor when the Montauk Lake house on Eastlake Drive with renovations in the early 80s. I fell in love with Montauk then and I've been there ever since. I was looking enough to buy 16 years ago and love every minute of my time out there
