this happened in the States too.. mind after the Scalp Act of 1756, all natives 11 years old and below were sold as slaves.. natives 12 years old and older were scalped... piles of their bodies, covered in blood is where the term "red Indian" originated... also assimilation is a nicer way of what it actually is.. cultural genocide... Thank you for sharing this!!

My native studies teacher in grade 12 made it very clear to us that the problems they had back then still very much still exist today. He’s such a good teacher but always doubted his teaching ability because he wasn’t indigenous himself

not sure about other schools, but my highschool taught grade 11 English with Indigenous literature. We learned all the normal English curriculum as well as Indigenous history, assimilation, and how Canada treated Indigenous. im glad they taught this

We definitely went taught. And then they found all kinds of infant skeletons at residential school. My husband and I were born and raised here. We are late 50’s and never heard of any such things! I always thought we were above that but nope. We are no better…
